Irresistible Salted Caramel Pretzel & Peanut Dark Chocolate Brownies: The Ultimate Game Day Treat!
When the Super Bowl buzz fills the air, or any festive gathering calls for an unforgettable dessert, these Salted Caramel Pretzel & Peanut Dark Chocolate Brownies are guaranteed to be a showstopper. Imagine a rich, deep dark fudge brownie base, loaded with the perfect blend of sweet and salty textures. We’re talking about crunchy pretzels, perfectly roasted peanuts, and a decadent, gooey salted caramel ganache, all crowned with a delicate chocolate drizzle. This isn’t just a dessert; it’s an experience – a touchdown for your taste buds, designed to win over every guest at your party!
There’s something universally appealing about the combination of sweet and salty, and these brownies master it with every bite. The robust chocolatey goodness of the fudge brownie pairs exquisitely with the crisp, briny snap of pretzels and the earthy crunch of peanuts. But the real star? That luscious salted caramel ganache, enveloping everything in a soft, luxurious embrace. It’s the kind of treat that creates lasting memories, making your game day celebration or any special occasion truly spectacular.

Why These Sweet & Salty Brownies are a Must-Have
These brownies aren’t just for Super Bowl Sunday; they’re perfect for any occasion that demands a crowd-pleasing dessert. Their complex flavor profile – the bitterness of dark chocolate, the sweetness of caramel, the saltiness of pretzels and peanuts – creates an addictive harmony that keeps everyone coming back for more. They’re surprisingly easy to make, whether you choose to bake your brownies from scratch or opt for a convenient boxed mix. The real magic happens when you assemble the layers of flavor and texture, transforming simple ingredients into a gourmet delight.
To truly elevate these brownies, the star ingredient is undoubtedly the Salted Caramel Ganache. For an unparalleled taste, I highly recommend using quality Hershey’s Sea Salted Caramel Chips. These chips are incredibly delicious, offering just the right balance of sweet caramel with a hint of sea salt that enhances all the other flavors without being overpowering. They melt into a rich, velvety ganache that is truly “to die for” – a phrase I use sparingly! You might even find yourself sneaking a few chips straight from the bag, they’re that good. This ganache is the secret weapon that takes these brownies from delicious to absolutely irresistible.

Pairing and Party Pleasers
Looking for the perfect pairing for these decadent treats? While these brownies are a delight on their own, they also complement a wide range of beverages. And yes, you can absolutely still enjoy a cold beer! The salty crunch of pretzels and peanuts in these brownies makes them a natural companion for a crisp lager or ale. The flavors meld surprisingly well, creating a harmonious snack experience as you enjoy the company of friends and family during any lively event.
On a related note, I’m always thinking about new flavor combinations, and it strikes me that I really need to develop a beer-infused brownie recipe sometime soon. The rich, malty notes of certain beers could add an incredible depth to a chocolate brownie. It’s a culinary adventure I plan to embark on! But for now, let’s focus on these pretzel-loaded marvels that are already a definite “win” in my recipe book. How could they not be? They bring joy, flavor, and that perfect sweet-and-salty crunch that everyone craves.

Mastering the Art of Salted Caramel Pretzel & Peanut Brownies
Crafting these incredible brownies involves a few straightforward steps, ensuring you achieve that perfect balance of fudgy, crunchy, and gooey. Whether you’re a seasoned baker or just starting out, this recipe is designed for success. Let’s dive into the essential ingredients and the process to create these delightful treats.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Homemade Dark Chocolate Brownies or Use Boxed Brownies (Prepare according to package instructions)
- 10 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¾ cup + 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (for that rich, deep chocolate flavor)
- ¼ teaspoon salt (enhances the chocolate and balances sweetness)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (essential for flavor depth)
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup all purpose flour
- ½ cup mini chocolate chips (for extra chocolatey pockets)
Salted Caramel Ganache:
- 1-2/3 cups or 10-oz. pkg. HERSHEY’S Sea Salt Caramel Flavored Baking Chips, divided
- ½ cup heavy whipping cream
Salt Extras:
- ½ cup Roasted Peanuts (for that essential nutty crunch)
- Pretzels (crushed or mini twists, for salty texture)
Chocolate Drizzles:
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon canola or coconut oil (optional, makes it glossy and easier for drizzling)

How to Make Salted Caramel Pretzel & Peanut Brownies
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures even baking from the start.
- Prepare your baking pan: Line an 8-inch (20 cm) square baking pan with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Make sure to leave an overhang on the sides – this creates “handles” that will allow you to easily lift the cooled brownies out of the pan for clean slicing. Spray the foil or parchment with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
Homemade Dark Chocolate Brownies or Use Boxed Brownies & Prepare according to instructions
- In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, and salt.
- Stir these ingredients together. Microwave the mixture in 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly after each interval, until the butter is completely melted. This should take about a minute or two. Don’t worry if the mixture looks a bit gritty at this stage; it will smooth out.
- Set the mixture aside for a minute or two to allow it to cool slightly. This prevents the eggs from scrambling when added.
- Stir in the vanilla extract, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Continue stirring until the mixture becomes thick, glossy, and beautifully combined. This step is crucial for achieving that signature fudgy texture.
- Gently add the all-purpose flour and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to tough brownies. Finally, fold in the mini chocolate chips for extra pockets of melted chocolatey goodness.
- Pour the brownie batter evenly into your prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 25 minutes. Begin checking your brownies around this time.
- To test for doneness, insert a toothpick into the center of the brownies. If it comes out with moist crumbs attached, your brownies are done! If it comes out clean, they might be slightly overbaked, but still delicious. If they appear too loose or wet, bake for another 3-5 minutes, checking frequently. Remember, for truly fudgy brownies, it’s better to slightly underbake than overbake. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before proceeding. This can take an hour or two. Once cooled, you can make the Salted Caramel Ganache.
Salted Caramel Ganache
- In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine the caramel chips and heavy whipping cream.
- Microwave at MEDIUM (50% power) for 1 minute, then stir well. If the chips are not fully melted and smooth, microwave for additional 10-second intervals, stirring thoroughly after each heating, until the ganache is smooth and creamy. Be careful not to overheat.
- For a thicker, frosting-like consistency, cool the ganache in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it reaches your desired spreading thickness. For a gorgeously gooey effect, pour the ganache over the cooled brownies immediately after making it, without refrigerating.
Pretzel and Peanut Topping
- Once the ganache is spread over the brownies (either gooey or frosted), generously sprinkle the roasted peanuts and pretzels (lightly crushed if using larger pieces) evenly across the top. This layer adds the essential crunch and salty contrast.
Chocolate Drizzles
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in 20-second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until completely smooth. If desired, stir in 1 teaspoon of canola or coconut oil to make the chocolate glossier and easier to drizzle.
- To drizzle, you can dip a fork into the melted chocolate and wave it back and forth over the brownies for a rustic look. For a more controlled drizzle or to create a professional piped design, transfer the melted chocolate to a sturdy plastic bag (like a Ziploc). Snip a very small hole in one corner of the bag and pipe the chocolate over the toppings.
- Storage Tip: It’s best not to store these brownies in the refrigerator with the pretzels already on top for extended periods, as pretzels can absorb moisture and lose their crunch. Store the brownies in a sealed airtight container at room temperature until you are ready to serve them to maintain the pretzels’ crispness. If storing for longer, you might consider adding the pretzels just before serving.

Salted Caramel Ganache:
- Place caramel chips and heavy whipping cream in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at MEDIUM (50%) power for 1 minute; stir. If necessary, microwave at MEDIUM for additional 10-second intervals, stirring after each heating, just until chips are melted and the ganache is smooth when stirred. For a frosting effect: Cool in the refrigerator for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until desired spreading consistency is reached.
- For a gooey effect, add the ganache to the cooled brownies without refrigerating.
Pretzel and Peanut Time:
- Add pretzels (lightly crushed if desired) and roasted peanuts evenly to the top of the caramel layer on the brownies.

Then drizzle the chocolate over the top of the brownies by dipping a fork into the melted chocolate and waving it over the surface. For a more controlled drizzle or piping, place melted chocolate in a heavy plastic bag and snip off a small hole on one of the corners to use it as a pastry bag.
- Do not store brownies in the fridge with pretzels on top, as pretzels can absorb moisture and lose their crunch. Store brownies in a sealed airtight container at room temperature until ready to serve.
