How to Make M&M® Easter Egg Chocolate Bark
Making chocolate bark is a straightforward process, but working efficiently with melted chocolate is key. Have all your ingredients and tools ready before you begin, as the chocolate sets relatively quickly. This ensures a smooth and enjoyable crafting experience, especially if you have little helpers!
- Step 1: Preparation is Key. Line a standard baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. This will prevent sticking and make for easy removal and cleanup. Set it aside, ready for your chocolate masterpiece.
- Step 2: Melt the Chocolate. Using high-quality white chocolate is crucial for the best results. Chop your white chocolate into small, uniform pieces. Place all but about 1 cup of the chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly with a rubber spatula after each interval, until the chocolate is mostly melted and smooth (typically 3-5 minutes total).
- Step 3: Tempering for Shine and Snap (Quick Method). Once most of the chocolate is melted, quickly add the remaining 1 cup of chopped chocolate to the bowl. Stir briskly until these pieces are also melted and the chocolate is completely smooth and shiny. This technique, known as “seeding,” helps to temper the chocolate, giving your bark a beautiful sheen and a satisfying snap when broken. It’s okay if a few tiny unmelted pieces remain; they will melt into the warm chocolate.
- Step 4: Create Your Colors. Divide about 1/4 cup of the melted white chocolate into three small ramekins or bowls. Add a few drops of oil-based gel food coloring to each (pink, purple, and green are perfect for Easter). Mix each color well with a separate spoon until the chocolate is uniformly tinted. Make sure to use oil-based colors, as water-based colors can cause chocolate to seize and become clumpy.

Now, let’s get artistic with the main chocolate base!
- Step 5: Spread the Base. Pour the majority of the uncolored melted white chocolate onto your prepared baking sheet. Use your rubber spatula to spread it evenly into a rectangle or a large circle, about 1/4 inch thick. Aim for a size around 10 to 12 inches.

- Step 6: Dollop and Swirl. Using a spoon, randomly dollop spoonfuls of your colored chocolates over the spread white chocolate base. Don’t overthink it – irregular patterns often look the best!

- Step 7: Create Beautiful Swirls. Take the tip of a toothpick or the end of a clean spoon handle and gently drag it through the colored chocolate and the white chocolate base. Create elegant swirls, zigzags, or any design that inspires you. This is where the true artistry of chocolate bark comes to life!

- Step 8: Add the M&M® Magic. While the chocolate is still wet, generously sprinkle your M&M® Speckled Eggs over the entire surface. Press them down gently so they adhere to the chocolate. Feel free to mix both milk chocolate and peanut butter varieties for an extra flavor dimension!

- Step 9: Finish with Sprinkles. Finally, toss on your favorite decorative sprinkles. Easter-themed sprinkles, pastel colors, or even edible glitter will add an extra touch of sparkle and festivity to your bark. Let your imagination guide you!

Admire Your Creative Masterpiece!
Look at all those beautiful Easter colors and those yummy M&M® Speckled Eggs! Isn’t it simply gorgeous? This vibrant chocolate bark is a true testament to how easy it is to create something stunning and delicious with minimal effort.

- Step 10: Harden and Break. Allow the bark to harden completely at room temperature, which usually takes about one hour. For a quicker set, you can refrigerate it for a few minutes. Be careful not to leave it in the refrigerator for too long, as extreme cold can cause the chocolate to “sweat” or crack when it returns to room temperature. Once hardened, simply break the bark into irregular pieces – this is part of its rustic charm!
- Step 11: Storage. Store your M&M® Easter Egg Chocolate Bark in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 to 2 weeks. Keep it away from direct sunlight or heat sources to maintain its quality and prevent melting.

Serving Suggestions and Festive Fun
This decorative chocolate bark isn’t just for Easter baskets. It makes a fantastic addition to any Easter Egg Hunt, adding a pop of color and sweetness to the prize stash. It’s also a wonderful treat to serve at an Easter Brunch, placed on a festive platter alongside other holiday goodies. Prep Time

Ingredients
For the Bark:
- 1 pound white chocolate, good quality
- Milk Chocolate M&M® Speckled Eggs
- Peanut Butter M&M® Speckled Eggs
- Sprinkles
For pretty swirl effect:
- 3 Gel Food Colors – Oil-based (e.g., pink, purple, and green)
- Need: 3 ramekins or small bowls for making the colored chocolate
Instructions
- Preparation: This is an easy recipe, but you should work fairly fast after the chocolate has melted. Have all ingredients and utensils ready to go before you start.
- Chop Chocolate: Chop the white chocolate into 1/2-inch pieces with a large knife. Place all but 1 cup of the chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Melt Chocolate (Part 1): Microwave for 30 seconds, then stir with a rubber spatula. Continue microwaving and stirring at 30-second intervals until melted and smooth (totaling 3 to 5 minutes).
- Melt Chocolate (Part 2 – Seeding Method): Quickly add the remainder of the chopped chocolate to the bowl and stir briskly until completely melted and shiny. It’s okay if a few small unmelted pieces remain, they will melt into the warm chocolate.
- Color Chocolate: Place about 1/4 cup of the melted white chocolate into each of the 3 ramekins/bowls. Add some oil-based gel food color to each, using a toothpick to swirl it into the chocolate. Mix each color well with a spoon quickly.
- Spread Base: Pour the remainder of the uncolored white chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet. Use the rubber spatula to spread it into a 10-to-12-inch circle or rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Dollop Colors: Start by picking a colored chocolate and spooning it over the white chocolate base in random drizzles. Repeat with the other two colors.
- Swirl Design: Grab a toothpick or the end of a spoon handle and start swirling the colors around to create your desired patterns and designs.
- Add Toppings: Generously add your M&M® Speckled Eggs all over the chocolate, then follow with your decorative sprinkles.
- Harden: Let the bark harden completely at room temperature, about 1 hour. If you need to speed up the process, refrigerate for a few minutes. Avoid leaving it in the refrigerator for too long, as the chocolate can become too cold and may “sweat” or crack when brought back to room temperature.
- Break and Store: Once hardened, break the bark into irregular pieces. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 1 to 2 weeks.
Notes
Ensure all your tools and bowls are completely dry when in contact with melting chocolate, as even a tiny drop of water can cause chocolate to seize.
